Big Help Out Success
The Big Help Out is a new kind of campaign seeking to bring the country together. Its launch was timed to mark the Coronation through small acts of service - and to inspire a new generation to try out volunteering for the very first time.
And it was a massive success! An astonishing 7.2m people took part in The Big Help Out over Coronation week, around 60% of whom were volunteering formally or helping out informally for a cause or in their community. 70% of those who took part said their local area feels more united as a result of The Big Help Out, and 80% said they met someone new from a different background.
A massive thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part - not only those millions who tuned in, turned up and helped out - but the tens of thousands of organisations who came together to deliver what was possibly the most significant moment of volunteering this country has ever seen.
Thanks to their efforts, millions more people are now more likely to try volunteering, and that likelihood is highest amongst younger people - 25% of those likely to volunteer again were aged 18-24, the biggest proportion of all ages.
Inspired to do more? There’s plenty more to come over the summer, with the Big Help Out platform still there to help people find volunteering opportunities:
Throughout June it’s the Eden Project’s Month of Community, with plenty of resources to help you host a Big Lunch and more in your neighbourhood.
Sunday 2nd July is national Thank You Day, the nation’s biggest community thank you, so let's say a great big Thank You, to all our current and new volunteers! Head to Thankyouday.org.uk for all the resources to get started.
Preparations for the Big Help Out 2024 are already underway. If you’d like to keep up to date with developments and opportunities to contribute, you can sign up with the Big Help Out to stay in touch.
