Amanda Naylor (she/her)

Amanda joined Volunteering Matters in February 2024. She was previously CEO of Manchester Youth Zone, an organisation with a commitment to platforming young voices and creating safe spaces for young people to be themselves and reach their full potential. Before becoming CEO at Manchester Youth Zone, Amanda held senior positions at Barnardo’s and Victim Support.

Ruth Buchanan Leonard (she/her)
Chair, Association of Volunteer Managers
Co-Chair, Vision for Volunteering Partnership
Ruth is also the Head of Volunteering Development and Operations at Macmillan Cancer Support, where her role is to consider strategically where volunteers could be involved in providing solutions and to ensure that there is a supportive infrastructure to enable these interventions to be co-designed with and delivered by volunteers.

Laura Lowther (she/her)

Vision for Volunteering Team
With 15 years in the North-East charity sector, Laura joined the team from her role as Head of Volunteering at St Oswald’s Hospice in Newcastle. She is currently a Trustee with Newcastle Foodbank. She has broad strategic development experience and an interest in values, culture and inclusion.

Maddy Desforges (she/her)

Maddy joined NAVCA in March 2021. Before joining NAVCA, Maddy was CEO at Voluntary Action Sheffield, and before that she was a civil servant, holding a range of policy and strategy roles around education and employment.

Mudaser Ali (he/him)
Head of Development, Muslim Charities Forum
Vision for Volunteering Partnership
Through his role, Mudaser gets opportunities to engage in capacity building work with leaders who work tirelessly to empower their communities up and down the country. Mudaser is excited to see how volunteering evolves over the next 10 years, and is keen to play a role in shaping the future of volunteering so that anyone can take on opportunities to contribute positively to society.

Sarah Tranter (she/they)
Learning and Storytelling Officer

Before moving into the voluntary sector, Sarah worked in the public sector across Oxfordshire, Swindon and London. Most recently they managed a small local charity providing free hot cooked breakfasts for those experiencing food poverty or homelessness in Swindon. She is passionate about inclusion, engagement and big, exciting spreadsheets.
